Coronavirus Affecting Uber And Lyft Drivers In Raleigh Area

Charlotte | Huntersville | Hickory

Typically, this is the time of year when Uber and Lyft drivers would have more business than they can handle. With spring upon us, more people are going out and about. And, thankfully, people who are going out for a few cocktails choose to use a ridesharing program so they don’t have to drink and drive.

The Coronavirus is, indeed, having an impact on the rideshare business in Raleigh, North Carolina. Drivers for both Uber and Lyft said they have already seen a huge decline in business. Weekends are usually their busy time. However, this past weekend they said they had hardly any calls at all. This is affecting their pockets. They’re also afraid that this could have a long-term impact on their jobs and business.

Uber and Lyft Drivers Extra Pandemic Responsibilities

Drivers for Uber and Lyft are all working hard to keep their vehicles clean. They wipe them down after riders leave. They keep extra hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray in their vehicles. But can they do enough to contain the spread of the virus? And, will they eventually be ordered to shut down their routes?

Leaders from both Lyft and Uber said they’re doing what they can to comply with all the guidelines from the CDC. They’re working with consultants who are experts in public health. They’re also complying with any state limitations that are being imposed.

At a time when the public’s health is the most important thing – what are rideshare drivers to do? And, what will this mean for the people of North Carolina? People are going to have to revert to the ways of old. We only hope that this doesn’t cause more people to drink and drive.
