An innocent driver was hit by fleeing suspect in a police chase recently. Whenever we hear about a crash that happens during a police chase, we ask ourselves – was it worth it? Every county has their own policy when it comes to pursuing fleeing felons. If, in their opinion, there is no substantial threat to public safety, they have an obligation to chase down criminal suspects. Unfortunately, when this happens, the results can be disastrous. This was certainly the case near Robbins, North Carolina this week.
The police noticed a woman pass by them in her black BMW Thursday afternoon at about 3 pm. She was on Big Oak Church Road, between Eagle Springs and Robbins. They knew the woman and were aware that she had outstanding warrants. They also know she didn’t have a driver’s license. They turned around and attempted to stop the female driver.

She saw the police and took off. She was trying to pass slower drivers when she ended up driving through a stop sign at the intersection of Big Oak Church Road and Highway 24/27. When they got through the intersection, they smashed into an oncoming vehicle.
The woman driving toward her was in a white SUV. She was seriously injured and had to be taken by ambulance to Moore Regional Hospital Pinehurst. Her passenger was also taken to the hospital. The driver of the black BMW had to be airlifted to UNC Trauma Center. There has been no update on her condition.
The woman driving the white SUV will certainly have a potential claim against the driver of the BMW. She may also have a potential claim against Moore County.
